About my position as a Designer

West Elm’s business model is highly directed toward higher end home furnishings with the majority of the products being made to order along with supplemental retail home furnishings. I am responsible for educating customers regarding products and enhancing their confidence with home purchases insuring that the custom product and additional items are correct for their needs across all levels. I conduct and facilitate many on the fly design decisions and aim to build clients confidence so they can make the most of their purchases and ensure they suit their lifestyle. 

The sales and retail side of West Elm also has a number of factors in which I have to attend to. There are high metrics for the amount of sales that need to be generated and average order volume. I have been able to meet and exceed those metrics while facilitating a calm and supportive experience for clientele. 

I have also had the opportunity to be a part of designing large homes, hotels, and commercial spaces with a variety of West Elm products. While there is a lack of visual artifacts due to policies regarding peoples privacy it is easy to see how many businesses and homes have West Elm products with the majority of them being procured through design services that I have been a part of.  

As a part of the West Elm team in Austin I have also had many opportunities to work cross functionally. Gaining a better understanding of product positioning to get it in the view of customers, staging to build ideas and desires,  along with strategies to better the sell through products. I have worked in the back of house for receiving, ship outs inbound logistics, outbound logistics and reverse logistics gaining a better understanding of packaging and organization systems for stock.  

I am thankful for the time at West Elm and the continuation of helping to facilitate a good environment to exist within.
